Instead of being constraining, the spiritual practice is liberating. Instead of shutting down our view of the world, it opens us up to the full complexity and the deep challenge of the world.
And takes us to the heart of God.
We are challenged to stand with the living Christ at the gates of hope. It is the place of truth-telling, about our own souls first of all and their condition; the place of resistance and defiance, the place from which we see the world both as it is and as it could be, as it will be; the place from which we glimpse not only struggle, but joy in the struggle. We stand there, with the Christ who sets us free, beckoning and calling, telling people what we see, asking people what they see.
